Now that lithium batteries have been widely used in the automotive industry, such as Tesla’s new electric vehicles, what requirements should the design of lithium batteries for electric vehicles follow?
(1) Consider the installation conditions of the whole vehicle
The appearance size of the lithium battery should meet the size requirements of the vehicle, and the necessary mechanical connection interface and electrical connection interface should be provided between the lithium battery pack and the vehicle.
The installation position of the battery box should avoid moving parts on the chassis of the vehicle, and should be as close as possible. At the same time, the convenience of battery maintenance should be taken into consideration.
The installation location also needs to consider the vehicle's center of gravity distribution and the vehicle load distribution.
(2) Tightness/IP rating requirements
Lithium batteries need to have a certain degree of waterproof and dustproof capabilities. If the battery is installed in the wading area of the vehicle, a higher level of sealing is required, such as IP67.
Consider the use of sealant or other methods for sealing between the upper and lower covers of the battery, and the fixing of the connector should also be sealed.
(3) Thermal management requirements
The battery generates heat during the working process. It needs to be released in time to prevent the battery temperature from causing thermal runaway. At the same time, it is necessary to ensure that the temperature uniformity inside the lithium battery pack and the temperature gradient difference meet a certain range of requirements.
(4) Anti-collision and shock absorption requirements
There will be bumps in the driving process of the vehicle, and there may also be impacts, collisions or crashes. Lithium batteries need to be able to protect against these conditions.
(5) Electrical insulation requirements
Electric vehicles generally belong to the category of high voltage, and need to consider the insulation between the lithium battery and the battery box, and the battery box and the body.
The above are some basic design requirements for the application of lithium batteries to electric vehicles.
Lithium-ion battery (LIB) has become the main energy storage solution in modern social life. Among them, lithium iron phosphate batteries are a perfect replacement for lead-acid batteries, and they are the first choice for grid-connected peak shaving, off-grid energy storage, photovoltaic energy storage, UPS, data center and other industries.
