California utility company Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) recently stated that any community in its service area is now eligible to apply for the installation of a microgrid constructed by renewable energy + energy storage systems.
(The company provides financial, technical guidance and design support for the microgrid in its distribution network that does not exceed 20MW in total)
Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) launched the Community Microgrid Support Program (CMEP) in April this year. The plan operates in accordance with special electricity prices approved by the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC).
The Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) stated that the microgrid project will largely be replicated from the original pilot project-the microgrid deployed at the Humboldt Airport in California's Redwood Coast. The microgrid includes a DC-coupled 2.2MW solar power generation facility and a 2MW/8MWh Tesla battery energy storage system (BESS).
The microgrid provides renewable energy to customers including the Redwood Coast Humboldt Airport and the U.S. Coast Guard Air Station, and provides backup power for a community to start in the event of a power outage. It can operate as a grid-connected asset, or it can operate independently on islands.
Initially, the plan was suitable for communities with high fire threats. These are areas prone to forest fires and public safety power outages (PSPS). The Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) has developed plans to prevent its power infrastructure from potentially causing more forest fires.
Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) has approximately 5.5 million customers. The company recently applied to the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) for approval to extend the eligibility to all residents in its service area, and the regulatory agency has approved the application.
In addition to formulating a community microgrid plan, the company received a permit last year to provide customers in the worst-hit public safety power outage (PSPS) areas with a 450MW mobile power generation system.
Lithium-ion battery (LIB) has become the main energy storage solution in modern social life. Among them, lithium iron phosphate batteries are a perfect replacement for lead-acid batteries, and they are the first choice for grid-connected peak shaving, off-grid energy storage, photovoltaic energy storage, UPS, data center and other industries.
Solar power generation system with lithium battery energy storage system is a very promising clean energy.
