Why is the battery management system (BMS) of lithium-ion batteries so important?

　　The ideal lithium battery has a high degree of performance consistency. As long as it is overcharged during use, there is no safety problem. The actual situation is that the quality of the battery fully meets the standard when it leaves the factory, but unsafe incidents occur during use.

　　Even if the lithium battery fully complies with international safety standards when leaving the factory, it will evolve from a safe state to an unsafe state during use. The performance of good-quality single-cell batteries gradually declines and reaches the end of life, and the performance of poor-quality single-cell batteries will gradually experience various abnormal deterioration and decline during use. This is a gradual changing process.

　　BMS - Battery Management System, it usually has the functions of measuring battery voltage, current, temperature, etc., to prevent or avoid abnormal conditions such as over-discharge, over-charge, and over-temperature of li-ion batteries.

　　Some advanced li-ion battery BMS have functions of accurate charge state estimation, RS485/CAN communication, Bluetooth or remote online monitoring.

　　The BMS is not optional, but NECESSARY, and also throughout the whole service life of li-ionion batteries.
